What do you do to re-charge your soul? What does self-care look like, feel like to you?
This is my first real day off in weeks...ok, I confess, I did do one work-related project this morning but only because it was time sensitive. I did manage to close my laptop and decided to do something that I haven't done in a while: treat myself to brunch. It's one of my favorite things to do and I'm always in the mood for pancakes!
Sometimes you just need to be taken care of, especially if you're a parent and responsible for little ones in the morning. I don't know about you, but my mornings are crazed. It's all about coaxing the kid to wake up, then coaxing the pooch to go outside, making breakfast, making lunch, signing off on homework and assignment planners, then off to school. By the time that's done, I'm running around getting myself ready for work, making sure the pooch & the cats are fed, and off I go!
This is my time to re-charge, to be taken care of, and not rush. To sip a latte that I rarely have and savor this time alone and, luckily enough, with a soundtrack of David Bowie, Psychedelic Furs, and other 80's new wave playing in the background. This makes me happy. I also feel grateful for having the means to provide myself this little treat today.
Soon, I'll be in my car driving to the grocery store to stock up for the "snowmaggedon" that's supposed to hit the Chicagoland area tomorrow, see my therapist Debra who is an amazing counselor and who has the ability to help me contain my anxieties with such skill, and then it's off to pick up the cat's medicine, and, finally, pick up the kiddo from her after-school activity. Then, repeat the morning routine for the evening...
Ok, so maybe it's not exactly a day off, but for right now I'm at peace, sipping my latte, and enjoying "Just Like Heaven" by the Cure...
...ahhh, heaven...
